Brent Muscat, original member of Faster Pussycat, a band he now considers “dead” has been busy in Las Vegas with his new band, Sin City Sinners. After retiring from multiple tours with L.A. Guns (the Phil Lewis version) Brent joined forces with singer Todd Kerns an embarked on a project that provides old school rock to it’s loyal fans while offering the diversity of an array of talented musicians from yesterday and today to join the party. Upholding the Cathouse tradition of performing a gig every Tuesday night, Sin City Sinners chose the Dive Bar in Las Vegas to set up shop and Glam Metal was happy to ask Brent a few questions on the topic along with some other things inquiring minds might want to know…
................................................................................................................................................................................
Tell us the idea behind SC Sinners & how it came into existence. Did you hand select the members? When I was on tour in Europe last year with Todd Kerns, we spoke about putting together a fun jam band in Las Vegas. The idea was we would fly in various guests to play with us. Todd is by far the best front man I've played with and he had a great career in Canada before moving here. Todd knew our drummer Rob Cournoyer from Raging Slab and we both played with our bassist D in various jam bands. I'm fortunate to be playing with such great and professional musicians instead of some of the clowns that I used to play with in L.A.
How did you sell the idea to the Dive bar? I called the owner Nate, who is a friend of mine and explained the idea. We play every Tuesday, just like the Cathouse used to be. The night has really taken on a life of it's own, drawing great crowds and all kinds of celebrities from Ron Jeremy to Jake E Lee.
Do you contact the guest performers or do they contact you? Both.
Is there anyone you turned down that wanted to perform with you? Not yet. There's probably few people I couldn't imagine playing with, but if they contacted me, who knows?
If not, is there anyone you would turn down? There's a couple, but I don't want to name any names.
How many rehearsals do you have prior to the performance, or do you just wing it? One of the great things about this band is we learn the songs of our guests each week. We pick the songs and then email them to the members and we learn them on our own. Then we rehearse them at sound check the day of the show. The important thing for us is, when people come to see Phil Lewis as a guest they want to hear him sing L.A. Guns songs or if they come to see Cheetah Chrome they want to hear Dead Boys songs. So we usually play 4 or 5 songs from the guest and they sit in for a few covers. It’s much cooler then having guys play the same old songs every week.
I know this is an exhausted issue, but our readers want to know…Any updates you care to give on relations with Taime these days. Taime and I haven’t spoke for a few years, even before all the drama happened. He has my number.
How did all the legal stuff shake out (if you can comment)? It never went to court. I only wanted to do it for the 20th anniversary. By the time I got back from Europe I was done with it anyway. I tried to call Taime to give him the name and website, but he chose to have a lawyer deal with it instead. If he would have taken my call we could have both saved a lot of money.
Are you done with the whole Faster Pussycat Reunion thing for good? I tried to do it the right way for the fans, in my opinion Faster Pussycat is dead.
Are you going to Rocklahoma in July? It’s not really my thing and I’m either not a fan of or not familiar with a lot of the bands playing. Anybody who wants to see me in July can come visit fabulous Las Vegas.
Are there any new bands that have grabbed your attention lately? I’ve seen some great local bands here in Vegas, like The Black Jetts and there is a cool scene developing.
I once asked Keri Kelli who would win in a sushi eating contest you or him …he listed some of your favorite delicacies regarding that…lets see if he was right…what are they? You asked who? My favorite sushi is unagi, uni, toro, shiro maguro, and ankimo temaki...
Excerpt from KERI KELLI interview 3-05 : If you and Brent Muscat were in a sushi eating contest, who would win? That’s funny, sushi is like my favorite food of all time, obviously he’s into it too. But um, it might be a tie. He can eat a lot, let’s put it that way. He might actually be able to out eat me, truthfully! He’s a little bit more challenging, I like to eat all the regular stuff which I think is good like tuna, yellowtail and unagi but he goes in on crazy shit like fuckin’ monk fish liver and fuckin’ like eyes n’ shit, he’s very experimental he’s into that whole Asian culture, so he’ll eat fuckin’ anything!
We have a winner! Keri said unagi.
What do you think about Nikki Sixx’s book “Heroin Diaries” and are you EVER gonna put the finishing touches on Babblin’ On & On? I haven’t read it, but to tell you the truth why do I want to read about junkies when I toured with them most of my adult life. We'll see if we can get my book out before Chinese Democracy.
Do you have any other projects on the backburner? I am planning on contacting Kelly Nickels and Mick Cripps to join me for a third LA Guns line up. (laughs) But seriously, right now I’m concentrating on Sin City Sinners which you could check out at www.myspace.com/scsinners . We are getting ready to go in the studio and record a few songs. but while we were on the topic of L.A. Guns, I heard Paul Blacks been making claims he was in Faster Pussycat. Just for the record he was never in Faster Pussycat even for a split second and that's from the mouth's of Taime and mine. As far as I’m concerned he was never in any version of L.A. Guns that mattered either. (Ed Note: we contacted Paul Black about this and he said " He (Brent) must be hanging out with Phil. I'm honored that they're both talking about me.")

Any other comments you’d like to make to our readers and your fans? Thanks for your support and I hope everybody comes to see my band when they visit Las Vegas.
Now for some fun questions:If you were Super Hero, what would you chose as your super power? Invisibility, so I could do things and not get caught.
If given a chance to live a day in life of someone else who would it be? Howard Hughes, when he was sleeping with hot actresses' and before he went insane.
Name your favorite “one hit wonder” (song or artist) I don’t’ like to use that term, because I wouldn’t want to be called a one hit wonder.
OK, fair enough! Thanks for taking the time to answer some of our question Brent. Good luck with the continued success of Sin City Sinners and on your attempt to beat Axl to the finish line!
